Taïba Mine Site: Phosphate… for life |
|
Senegal has extensive reserves of exceptionally high quality
phosphate. Marketable phosphate from TAÏBA (with a standard
of 79 BPL), which has been mined since 1960 in Ndomor Diop
and more recently in Keur Mor Fall and Tobène, is synonymous with excellence
around the world.
|
 |
|
The
operating base of the ICS Group is the Taïba mine site located
100km from Dakar and its activities currently revolve around
the Keur Mor Fall and Tobène deposits.
|
|
The
opening of the Tobène mining panel will bring Taïba mine production
capacity to 2 million tons of marketable phosphate per annum,
with reserves estimated between 60 and 70 million tons.
|
| |
| Description |
|
The
phosphate ore is buried under a layer of sand 30 to 40 metres
deep. The thickness of the ore seam is between 7 and 10 metres.
The ore is made up of marketable phosphate, sand, clay or
mud and flint.

Marketable
phosphate is consumed as is by the phosphoric acid plants
in DAROU, or can be dried and sent to the Dakar port, for export.
|
|
After
they are mined, some of the quarries are filled in and turned
over to local farmers, who find the soil rich and fertile,
and suitable for market gardening and intensive farming.
